Wojciech Maziarski

He studied Hungarian philology in Budapest, from where he was deported in 1981 for “anti-state activities.” In the 1980s, he was a democratic opposition activist, editor and columnist for the underground press, and an activist in the Polish-Czech-Slovak Solidarity movement. Co-founder of the Solidarity Information Service and the Eastern European News Agency. Correspondent of the Polish Section of the BBC (1989-1991). Editor-in-chief of “Newsweek Polska” (2009-2012). Currently, editor of the Opinion desk of “Gazeta Wyborcza”.
