Urbanist-economist, exploring urban and regional economies and methods to improve their performance. Associate professor at the University of Lodz and Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Sociology. Author or editor of more than 100 publications in urban and regional studies. Recently, the translator of a Very Short Introduction to City Planning (Oxford University Press). He treats local government as the common good of all citizens and believes that one of the best things that has happened to Europe in recent years is decentralising power and bringing it closer to the people. However, he recognises that many things could have been done somewhat better or faster.
