Grzegorz Jankowicz

Grzegorz Jankowicz – a philosopher of literature, essayist, editor, publisher, critic, and translator.

From 2009 to 2024, he was a co-organizer of the Conrad Festival. Between 2009 and 2024, he worked as a culture editor for “Tygodnik Powszechny.” From 2014 to 2024, he served as the director of literary programs at the Tygodnik Powszechny Foundation. Between 2014 and 2017, he was an assistant professor at the Center for Humanities Studies at Jagiellonian University. He was the executive director of the International Copernicus Festival for two years (2014-2015). From 2012 to 2014, he was the executive director of the International Historical Festival Anamneses. Between 2009 and 2015, he was the vice-president of the publishing house Korporacja Ha!art and also edited two series for this publishing house (“Critical Line” and “Foreign Prose”).

He has been a juror for various literary awards, including the Silesius Award, Conrad Award, and the European Literary Award.

He is the author of several publications, including: “Why is Art Needed? Conversations with Writers,” “Cmono. Conversations with Writers,” “Gombrowicz – Loading. An Essay on the Form of Life,” and “Refugees from the Land of Ulro. Essays.” He edited the volume “A Tale of Two Cities: Wrocław and Kraków.” Together with Anna Kałuża, he prepared volumes titled: “Silesius Poetry Workshop. Year 1: Foks, Sosnowski” and “Silesius Poetry Workshop. Year 2: Matywiecki, Pasewicz, Pietrek.” He co-edited the book “Free Words. A Set for Individual and Collective Exercises” with Zofia Król. Along with Alberto Manguel, he co-authored the book “Small Languages, Big Literatures.” He is also the author of “Scars. Essays,” “Life in a Sphere. Parmigianino, Ashbery, and the Art of Transformation,” and “A Duel Around Emptiness. Essays.” He conducts reading workshops with youth, seniors, and incarcerated individuals.
