Joanna Podolska

PhD in humanities, journalist, publicist. She works at the Institute of Contemporary Culture at the University of Lodz. From 1993 to 2011 she was a journalist for “Gazeta Wyborcza”, since 2011 she has been director of the Marek Edelman Center for Dialogue in Lodz. For 30 years she has been popularizing the history and culture of Lodz, especially its multicultural roots, bringing closer the work of Jewish writers and artists. She is the author of many books, including the monograph “Litzmannstadt Getto. Places. People. Memory”, a script for a documentary film titled. “From the depths I cry…”.Co-editor of the scientific edition of the monumental ‘Chronicle of the Lodz Ghetto’. Curator of many biographical exhibitions. Organizer of many artistic activities promoting the idea of dialogue and cooperation between nations. Decorated with the Knight’s Cross of the Order of Rebirth of Poland – for her merits in activities for Polish-Jewish dialogue and with the Polin Prize – for her work to protect the memory of Polish Jews.
