He is a historian of philosophy and passionate about science, with a strong commitment to developing science communication in Poland and abroad. As founder and chief executive officer of the Copernicus Science Center in Warsaw, he created a space where science becomes accessible and understandable to everyone. He co-founded the Science Picnic, the largest outdoor science event in Europe, which attracts crowds of science enthusiasts. From 2011 to 2013, he served as chairman of the board of ECSITE, the European Network of Science Centers and Museums, and since 2017 he has been a member of the Board of Directors of ASTC, the American Association of Science and Technology Centers.
He is also involved in the Society for Society and Science SPiN, the Council for the Dissemination of Science of the Polish Academy of Sciences, and serves as an expert for the European Commission. His experience and expertise have been recognized by many international organizations, including CERN, Deutsches Museum and Ciencia Viva, where he sits on advisory boards. He has been an effective promoter of science for years, which earned him the prestigious Hugo Steinhaus Award for Outstanding Achievement in Science Communication in 1998.
He has also been awarded the Officer’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta (2012), the Polonia Rediviva Centennial Medal of Recovered Independence (2022) and the French National Order of Merit (2014).
